Park de la Ciutadella

Walking in the city in summer is not the most pleasant activity. The heat from the streets is in the air, it’s difficult to breathe and you can easily get sunstroke. Sitting in your vacation rental in Barcelona during the day is not fun, a better idea would be to find some green zones in the city, for example Park de la Ciutadella in Barcelona, the first park of such kind in the city and still the most popular and
the biggest one, having a 70 acres territory.
The citadel was founded in 18 century by Spanish king Philip V and has been the biggest fortress of that time with all the necessary buildings and had a capacity for 8,000 people. The park nearby has been established in the mid 19 century and the parts of it include the zoo, Parliament of Catalonia, museums of geology and zoology, lake and fountain. The lake is a perfect place to have a boat ride in a hot day and to add some romantics into life, as well as to explore the tree that is growing directly from the water and the turtles that can be found lying on the rocks. To hire a boat costs 6 EUR for 2 people for 30 minutes.
The building of the zoology museum is worth of attention, especially if you like Gothic architecture, as it is built in a neo-Gothic style with a slight touch of medieval castle and being called Castle of the Three Dragons.
The Park is an ideal place for long walks and a nice rest. There are lots of other things to explore, just don’t forget to look through short term rentals Barcelona on time when you’re coming to the city and may be you can find something nearby to have an opportunity to enjoy it more than once.
